Charles Gates Sheldon (1889 – 1960)

Charles Sheldon (1889 – 1960) was born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1889

Sheldon was pioneer in commercial fetish photography. It took me some time to put together collections with the various subjects he photographed, now the collection is finished (as far as possible) it gives an overview of the visions Sheldon shared on fetishes like shoes, fashion and masks. A little bit more about his life. After studying at the Art Students League, he went to Paris to study under the legendary Alphonse Mucha. He returned to America and set up a studio at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 1918 Sheldon received his first pin-up commission, a series of ads for La Vogue lingerie. He went on to do a series of work for the Fox Shoe Company as well as front covers for Collier’s Magazine, The Saturday Evening Post and Photoplay..

Somehow he seems to be more remembered for his artworks (which are great by the way) then for his work as photographer, I was unable to find info on his work as photographer.
